Commemoration

The Père Lafosse Cemetery, also called “cimetière des Âmes perdues” (Cemetery of Lost Souls), is located on the island of La Réunion, in Saint- Louis.

The sculpture paying tribute to the slaves who rebelled in Saint-Leu, created by Nelson Boyer, was inaugurated on the 15th of April 2012.

The statue, created by the Guyanese artist Lobie Cognac, was inaugurated on the 10th of June 2008 for the 160th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.

The statues and memorial plaques paying tribute to Anne-Marie Javouhey were installed in Mana, where the sister freed 185 slaves in 1838, 10 years before the abolition of slavery.

The sculpture in homage to Victor Schœlcher in Guyana is a bronze statue created between 1896 and 1897 by the French sculptor Louis-Ernest Barrias, and melted by Gustave Leblanc-Barbedienne.

The memorial in homage to the slaves in Saint-François was inaugurated on the 27th of May 1998, for the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.

Located near the Fort Delgrès, the memorial Louis Delgrès was erected during the bicentennial of the rebellion, in 2002.
