The statue, created by the Guyanese artist Lobie Cognac, was inaugurated on the 10th of June 2008 for the 160th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. This statue is named "Fiiman" which means "free man" in Bushi-Tongo, and represents a man breaking his chains and a woman, her arms reaching out to the sky, releasing a bird.
