Since 2009, the Collectif pour la semaine de la mémoire de l’esclavage of Saint Quentin-en-Yvelines (CSME-SQY) has been organising an annual week to commemorate the memory of slavery in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (from 4th to 10th May), which takes place in several municipalities.
Different events are organised, such as shows, conferences and round tables, sports, exhibitions and film screenings. The 2015 edition paid tribute to the heroes who struggled for the liberation and emancipation of slaves and their descendants. An exhibition entitled 'Pantheon of our Heroes' was presented. This exhibition was dedicated to personalities who fought for the abolition of slavery, equality and particularly the emancipation of the Black population. The 2016 edition showcased rhythms and musical trends inherited from the slavery period and was entitled 'Black rhythms'.
