The law by which 'the French Republic recognizes that the transatlantic and Indian Ocean slave trades on the one hand, and slavery on the other, perpetrated from the 15th century onwards in the Americas, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and Europe against African, Ameridian, Malagasy and Indian peoples constitute a crime against humanity.'
