Scope:
International A large-scale organization or association recognized both nationally and internationally, and with branches in multiple countries.
Historical overview:

Founded in Nantes in 1991, the organization Anneaux de la mémoire aims to educate the general public about the history of the slave trade, slavery and their legacies today. The association aims to promote new and equitable exchanges between African, American and European societies.

Since its creation, the association has implemented many cultural activities, such as exhibitions in France and abroad, international conferences and symposia, publications, educational activities, etc.

It provides operational support to various projects and to cultural and tourism development policies, through its members and its international connections.

With the support of the municipality, the association set up an exhibition on the triangular trade in the Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne between December 1992 and May 1994. Entitled 'Les Anneaux de la mémoire' ('The Shackles of Memory'), it was the largest ever international exhibition on this subject at the time.

Since 1999, les Anneaux de la mémoire has edited and published a French magazine, entitled the Cahiers des Anneaux de la mémoire, that deals with issues relating to the slave trade, slavery and their contemporary legacies.
