Historical overview:

The CREFOM was launched on the 31st of January 2014 on the occasion of its inaugural general assembly, at the Ministry of the Oversea in Paris.

The idea of CREFOM came from two men from different political parties, Victorin Lurel, then Minister of the Oversea and Patrick Karam, former ministerial delegate. The aim of CREFOM is to ensure that the Oversea speak with one voice, and that this voice is taken into consideration.

The CREFOM is a representative institution of the French oversea departments. The CREFOM is structured, organized and ready to work together with the main bodies of the Republic (Government, Parliament) and more generally with all of the Republican debate stakeholders. It aims to work towards real equality for the benefit of the French Oversea, to fight against all forms of racism, intolerance and exclusion, and to defend human rights, including dignity.

The CREFOM also aims to affirm its solidarity with the French overseas and the oversea territories. It works to preserve the memory of the slave trade, enslavement and their abolition.
