Historical overview:

According to their website, the association Tous Créoles! was founded in 2007 by around sixty people hailing from the different sections of the Antillean Creole community including, Afro-descendants, 'mulattos', Indians, Chinese, Békés (descendants of the white plantation class), Syrians, Lebanese, as well as 'metropolitans' (i.e. from France) and Africans who have long since adopted 'créolité' as a philosophy of life.

Its creation was founded on a shared desire to discuss a subject that had long been taboo in Martinique - the history of slavery - while also debating the coexistence of multiple communities within the island and their complex relations. Tous Créoles! recognizes that Antillean societies were born out of a crime against humanity, and works to undo the complex knots that link different communities in order to promote fraternity and social wellbeing. The concept of 'créolité' (or creolity) is viewed as a shared identity that extends beyond Martiniquais society and is represented by the association's symbol 'le bois lélé' - a wooden device with five spokes used for mixing drinks together.

Composed of approximately 230 members today, the association hosts many events throughout the year, both in Martinique and in Paris, aimed not only to promote Creole culture and characters, but also to encourage meetings and exchanges between the overses communities, sometimes together with other organisations or associations, through panel discussions, book presentations, conferences, exhibitions, excursions, hiking, etc.
