The Schœlcher museum was built in 1883 and houses a collection of sculptures and objects that the abolitionist Victor Schœlcher donated to the General Council of Guadeloupe.
The sculpture in homage to Louis Delgrès was inaugurated on the 26th of May 2001, in the Abymes (Guadeloupe). It was created by the Guadeloupian sculptor Jacky Poulier.
