On the Quai Gilbert in Saint-Paul stand a stele called "St-Paul à l'origine du métissage" (St. Paul at the root of ethnic mix) and statues created by a Malagasy artist (C. Rabemananjara) and an artist from La Réunion (Dolaine Courtis Fuma). Inaugurated on the 8th of December 2005, they commemorate the slavery trail, between Fort Dauphin (Madagascar) and St. Paul (La Réunion).
