Site overview:
Two statues in tribute to the Abbé Grégoire were erected in the town of Lunéville. The first statue was made of bronze and was inaugurated on the 12th of July 1885. It was the work of the sculptor Charles Elie Bailly from Lorraine. However, during World War II, the Nazis took away the bronze statue. A second statue replaced it, this time made of stone and created by sculptor Paul François Niclausse. It was inaugurated on the 16th of July 1955 in the presence of Mr. Monerville, president of the Council of the Republic and president of the association of the Amis de l’Abbé Grégoire (Friends of the Abbé Grégoire).
