Site overview:
The slave cemetery of the Anse Sainte-Marguerite dates back to the colonial era (eighteenth and nineteenth century). In 1995 and 1996, the hurricanes Luis and Marilyn raged on the Anse Sainte-Marguerite, uncovering human bones. The Inrap (National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research) carried out excavations and unearthed 48 graves to date. They suspect the presence of between 500 and 1,000 other graves.
