Site overview:
Opened in May 1986 under the direction of Christiane Falgayrettes-Leveau, the Dapper museum takes its name from a Dutch humanist from the seventeenth century, Olfert Dapper, author of the book "Description of Africa" (1668).
Located in Paris, the museum is dedicated to the understanding and preservation of the artistic and cultural heritage of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and their diasporas. Its exhibitions bring together works coming from major public and private collections as well as the own collections of the Dapper museum. A room is also devoted to exhibitions of artists from Africa and the Caribbean. The theater hosts many events on Africa: films, meetings, debates, etc.
