Site overview:
The monument "the abolition of slavery” was installed in 1998 in Saint-Nazaire. The work, designed by the artist Jean-Claude Mayo from La Réunion, was built on the Dukes of Alba of the old Mindin pier, and looks like a slave ship. Three bronze figures represent the steps of the abolition of slavery: a slave in chains, another struggling to free himself, and finally a freed slave looking towards the horizon. The commemorations of the 10th of May are held there.
