Site overview:
The Maison de l’Armateur (the House of the Ship-owner) is an eighteenth century house located in Le Havre, and was owned by various merchants before being converted into a museum. It was built in 1790 by Paul-Michel Thibault, who was the architect of the city of Le Havre at the time. Le Havre was among the major slave ports of France, just like Bordeaux, Nantes and La Rochelle. The House of the Ship-owner is open to visitors since 2006.
