Site overview:
The habitation Beausoleil is located in Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe. It supposedly belonged to the family of Montéran since the last quarter of the seventeenth century. A hundred slaves were then working on the domain, mainly producing rum and sugar. After the definitive abolition of slavery in 1848, 163 newly freed slaves decide to remain on the habitation and kept working under contract.
