On 13th May 1838, a French nun Anne-Marie Javouhey released 185 slaves in Mana (French Guiana) ten years before the abolition of slavery in 1848. The family home of Anne-Marie Javouhey is located within the grounds of the Anne-Marie Javouhey high school in Chamblanc and can be visited. The association Sur la Route des Libertés: de Chamblanc à Mana organises a walking trail that traces the major stages in the life of this missionary.
