Court case: Nicolas Bedos

On 7th January 2013, the association CollectifDom lodged a formal complaint against the comedian Nicolas Bedos for racial slurs following the publication of two online articles for the weekly magazine, Marianne. In Autumn 2012, Bedos had gone on holiday to Guadeloupe and had used this experience to write two articles, published on the 9th and 18th December 2012. These were entitled 'Island laziness' and 'A journey into Chirac'. In these articles, he used certain offensive terms, such as 'mother-fucking nigger', 'island laziness' and 'idle natives'. CollectifDom, as an association that defends the rights of Antilleans, considered that these expressions constituted 'a serious attack on their honour'. The case was heard on 5 October 2015 and Bedos was discharged
