The sculpture in homage to Victor Schœlcher in Guyana is a bronze statue created between 1896 and 1897 by the French sculptor Louis-Ernest Barrias, and melted by Gustave Leblanc-Barbedienne. The statue was inaugurated on the 14th of July 1897, and represents Victor Schœlcher putting his hand on the shoulder of a young freed slave, commemorating both Victor Schœlcher and the abolition of slavery.
