Site overview:
Stairs whose steps were built by slaves are located in Petit-Canal. At the bottom of these stairs is located the monument of the eternal flame dedicated to the unknown slave, and a memorial in homage to Delgrès. They were inaugurated on the 28th of May 1994 by Florent Mitel, mayor of Petit- Canal, and the "Comité 94", to mark the bicentenary of the first abolition of slavery in Guadeloupe (7th of June 1794 - 7th of June 1994).
