Collectif161 Toulouse is a collective for the commemoration of the abolition of slavery, the Transatlantic slave trade and the Indian Ocean slave trade.
Consolidated in 2009 after several individual initiatives of associations, Collectif161’s main goal is to organise the commemoration of the 10th of May, focusing on the memory of the abolition of the western trade of Africans who were deported via the Transatlantic and Indian Oceans.

Summary of objectives:
- To commemorate the abolitions through a celebration of freedom
- To organise a "walk" of tolerance, a time for sharing and visibility
- To remind people that this is a national day (make a reflex out of that date, like the 14th of July)
- To revisit the past in order to look towards the future
- To let the public know that the State recognised slavery and the slave trade as a "crime against humanity"
- To reach as many people as possible in the community and to share with all the people of Toulouse
- To raise awareness about the event for those who were involved in it by linking it to the historical reality
- To participate in the memory work by bringing forth the various oversights, omissions
- To share, inform and educate
- To carry out archival research to show images and writings from these four centuries of history of Western trade (to create a space of expression for the memory researchers of the region)
- To create proximity between the people and the historical reality
- To trace the elements related to the participation and involvement of the southwest of France in this part of history in order to help forge a shared memory
