In 1998, the Comité inter-associatif pour la commémoration de l’abolition de l’esclavage was called the Comité inter-associatif pour la commémoration du 150ème anniversaire de l’abolition de l’esclavage, and its goal was to organise and create projects to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in 1998.

On the 26th June 2002, the committee changed its name and became the Comité inter-associatif pour la commémoration de l’abolition de l’esclavage. The association also set itself a new objective: to organise the commemoration of the abolition of slavery and the development of activities relating to the culture, history and promotion of citizenship.
