The Institut du Tout-Monde was created on Edouard Glissant’s initiative and with the support of the Regional Council of Ile de France and the Ministry of overseas territories. It proposes to further the knowledge of the creolization phenomena and processes, and to help spread the extraordinary diversity of people’s imagination.
The Institut du Tout-Monde is both a site of study and research, a space of invention and training, a meeting place and a space dedicated to the memories of people and places of the world.
The aim of Édouard Glissant is to create an extensive cultural network in Paris and the rest of France’s regions, with close ties to the oversea departments and international countries.
- To enhance the work and teaching of Edouard Glissant and of all of the artists, teachers, men of science and social actors who have worked and are working in the same direction, by publishing books, journals or other publications
- To set up an internet website, exhibitions, lectures, shows, screenings, film programing and theatrical activities with the “Théâtre du Tout-Monde” an institution associated with the Institut du Tout-Monde.
- To create a "Maison du Tout-Monde" in Paris, a place of high diversity in terms of the linguistic and cultural communities which are a component of the French and Francophone society.
- To support and carry out the installation and operation of the “musée martiniquais des arts des Amériques” (M2A2) located in Martinique, in collaboration with the Institut du Tout-Monde (Martinique)
- To receive and manage the works attributed to artists of the Americas and made available to the M2A2, and to organize the circulation of these works for touring exhibitions, before their final installation in the M2A2
- To complete and publish a comparative historical Encyclopaedia of the Arts of the Americas in connection with the activities of the M2A2
- To put together an archive (written and oral) of the West Indian and Caribbean cultures, the “Archives des Archipels” (archipelagos’ archives)
- To strengthen exchanges and links between people wanting to defend and save creolisation, multilingualism or plurilingualism
- To take any action in France, in the Caribbean, in Africa, in the Indian Ocean and in the Pacific Ocean to encourage the development and growth of artistic and scientific studies and works dedicated to the diversity of people and their relationship
- To encourage any initiative to develop a vision of diversification of the cultures of the world and their necessary dialogue
- To work with the association Tout-Monde (Guadeloupe) to continue the work of the Carbet prize in the the Caribbean
