Historical overview:

Founded on 1 January 1989, Racines (Roots) has been working since 2000 to develop and spread the knowledge of the history of Black people in all of the countries where the Black people were deported. To encourage the distribution of this knowlege, Racines therefore created an eponymous newspaper, the first edition being released in May 2001. Racines has created a game of questions and answers on the history of the Black world, and has organised and coordinated the 'Month of Africa' since 2004. Racines now has a cultural space at 78 rue François Arago in Pointe-à-Pitre, where people can access reference books (for sale and on loan), watch movies and participate in conferences and debates every first Friday of the month.
